The Application of Jigsaw in Introduction to Linguistic Class

Abstract


In comprehending learning material, students need different strategies for different subjects. Sometimes, they tend to be silent during teaching learning process. On the other hand they need to discuss with their friends. In Introduction to linguistics class, it has much material. It covers concept of the language, phonology, morphology, syntax, sociolinguistics, pragmatics and applied linguistics. For studying those aspects, it needs much time and many meetings. Jigsaw, the concept of discussion in group would be used since it is a cooperative learning which has a grouping strategy. They can discuss all the parts with their mates. In applying it, the researcher used Classroom Action research with three cycles. As the result, it showed students comprehension on subject material improved. It can be asserted that Jigsaw has positive results in teaching outcome.
