Letter from the Chairman
The Eagle Star Technology Corridor (ESTech) was organized to achieve two goals:
• Provide a rapid response program to in-bound inquiries from out of state technology companies (ag, high, rec, clean) looking for commercial building pads or existing buildings in commercial developments within the Eagle or Star city limits and/or the surrounding AOI that is platted for commercial development.
• Develop a culture and community around the diverse technology companies and start-ups operating within Eagle, Star, and the AOI. Hence programs like "Open Mike" and "Science Café".
Four months after inception, ESTech is supported by more than 300 members of the business community in Eagle and Star, both Chambers of Commerce and both City Councils. Furthermore, it is a key piece of the Boise Valley Economic Partnership's recruiting effort.
If you or your company would like to understand more about this grassroots effort that was organized to help recruit new companies to our community and, in the process, improve our local economy, I would like to invite you to attend the next meeting. The dates are posted on the Calendar.
Sincerely,
C. Lloyd Mahaffey Chairman

Computer Viruses - Then and Now In January 1986, one of the first mass-spread computer viruses was released. It affected Apple IIe and MS-DOS based systems before the Internet became a commodity. Today, computer viruses are so sophisticated and prolific that fighting them is a full-time business for anti-virus vendors. What's changed to make viruses so prolific, decades later? Unlike a fad that's run its course, computer viruses are now the tool of choice for organized crime rings.
Lew Payne first encountered the Brain Virus on his MS-DOS machine in 1986. Today, he specializes in online fraud controls, identity verification, denial of service mitigation, and developing new Internet technologies.
Join us for an enlightening discussion.
